Foldable phones have been around for a while, but I still regularly get people asking me whether they’re going to break in half.
On Sunday, YouTuber JerryRigEverything tried to do just that to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8…and couldn’t.
JerryRigEverything put Samsung’s foldable through his typically rough set of tests to see how it’ll hold up. This included scratching the display with a utility knife and burning it with a lighter. The damage was there, of course, but it wasn’t fatal.

Then, JerryRigEverything tried the ultimate test by bending the phone in the direction opposite of its folding mechanism. Again, there was significant damage to the phone’s hinge, and this is something that you should never do to your phone. At the end of it, however, the phone was still alive and kicking, and there was barely any damage to its display.
Being limited to one device only, the test obviously isn’t perfect, but it’s a testament to how far Samsung has progressed in building its foldable phones to last. As a reminder, check out what the same YouTuber’s tests did to the original Samsung Galaxy Fold a few years back.
